This is the video I would probably choose, as this one fits our theme well. How to improve our critical thinking. This video is a short story about how to improve our critical thinking skills through a multi-faceted step-by-step approach to critical thinking with life occurrences. These are 1. ask your questions 2. gather your information 3. apply the information 4. consider the implications 5. explore alternative perspectives. In terms of the video, I think he needs the viewer (student) to engage with the interaction in two ways: 1. to think carefully about the examples given in the video and combine them with their own experiences; 2. as the video is posted on YouTube, the viewer (student) can leave comments below when they have the same or different opinions.
When students are interested in the video content, they can be more active in acquiring knowledge in an interactive way. Students may actively take notes, think about examples of critical thinking, or as I mentioned above, students may leave comments below with their opinions. After they have watched the video (design), I will suggest that they do a debate activity because in critical thinking there are multiple sides to everything, I will choose an interesting topic, divide the students into groups and let them consult the information and strengthen their thinking in a debate, the activity will help them to think dialectically and also learn about critical thinking, and this activity does not require any difficult things, just need a video conferencing software like “zoom”. which is more convenient. Once we have grouped the students, the students set the time for MEETING. Their debates are recorded and submitted to me, and I grade them on their participation, and knowledge, and then the students are informed of their participation by their scores. A website medium such as “UVIC bright space” would be sufficient here.
For me, my main job is to watch their debate videos, it’s easy to manage because the website keeps track of submissions and gives feedback on scores. I will make a list of interesting debate topics and students will be able to choose them in teams and then submit videos via the website and get feedback at the end.
